Good post, great info! Some clarification on my end...

Good post, Teacher! Don't worry about the length - as long as it contains good info, I'll read anything! Heck, I read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" and found it so packed with great facts and info that the pages just flew by - read like a suspense novel.

Getting back to the task at hand...
Given your clear definition of 'dynamics', it's obvious I misused the word (see my response to clifff below).
As far as how responsive the headphones are, I have no clue how to answer you except to say that I think they are pretty good regarding the low passages. I always like a bit of volume with my Beyerdynamics DT331 (I think) only because they are open backed (what's the term again?), so not much soft stuff goes by unplayed or unnoticed.

My source is usually either of my CD players with original pressings. The chip is a TDA2005, and the kit is K143 from KitsRUs.com . The music played ranges from classic jazz to modern Rock to Trance, to softer female singer/songwriters.

As far as the noise floor is concerned, I increased the feedback resistors to reduce the gain, and the noise floor was reduced to the point where there's only a very slight hiss at volume levels that would blow the cans right off my head. I also piggybacked a 1000uf cap on the power supply end which improved the quality of the low end measurably.

Other mods that I'm also considering:
- adding another 9V battery in parallel to increase the mAh capacity
- adding a couple of 1.5 volt batteries to raise operational voltage
- subbing the cheap volume pot for an ALPS unit
- rewiring my headphones with silver wire and possibly hardwiring them to the pcb (I don't use them anywhere else, so why not?)
