HM....I would suggest that the XXX by itself is NOT euphonic....I've heard it in many systems, and with many, many power cables (primarily using Oyaide connectors). Of all the Oyaide platings, it *is* the most neutral presentation (that opinion has also been reiterated by many others). My view is that what you are hearing is due to the materials interaction (of the XXX) and other "ingredients" in your system, skewing that neutrality. It is what it is, and you are hearing what you are hearing....no argument.
Was your XXX cryo-treated? I've never experienced any graininess with a properly cryo-treated outlet. In that regard, I think you'll have a most favorable impression of the R-1.
