I have found exactly what you have described in two different SWO-XXX in two completely different locations.
The outlet needs LOTS of burn-in. 400 minimum -700 hours for me. I swapped mine out a couple of times because I couldnt stand its sound, and kept coming back and trying it - third time lucky. I then went for a second outlet with an awareness of this extended burn-in requirement, and it was the same and eventually mellowed.
It also needs to be combined with the right plugs. I find it works with a P-079 which balances it out. So with lots of burn-in and the right plugs I find it works reasonably well. Without these I find the lower treble is too hot with midrange a little recessed, giving a cold metallic sound.
I think it is this lower treble push which gives it its characteristic of 'detail' - i guess its just a matter of making sure other components (and RFI) are not emphasizing or interfering in the same spot of the frequency range.
