Hi.

I got some cheapie no-name chokes lying around.

Not that I am too lazy to try. One thing bothers me: all these chokes are not designed to handle AC mains. In case of HV shorting in the choke that cause damages, fire or whatever, which can happen, who knows? There would be a no claim case for the house underwriters.

I would strongly suggest you to put on a series slow-blow fuse to the shunt choke.
