Hi.Let's take a close look at Hammond 193L. DCR=57R, inductance=5H,
so impedance at 60Hz will be: 1,885R (applying: 2.pie.f.H).The current constantly drawn by the inductor will be some 64mA rms.
But that small current drain should not account for its being better sounding as acting like a so called energy reservoir as it has been suggested.So why it can improve the sound???
One possible explanation is improving the power factor in a capacitive load, e.g. upstream of a capacitors loaded powerline filter, or the primary winding of the power transformer of an audio amp.
By adding a shunt inductor, which is theroetically 90 degree ahead of its resistive load, will improve the 90 degree lagginng power factor of the capacitive load. So the same VA O/P from the power point, can deliver more juices to power the load more efficiently.
Subjectively, one can hear more punch, more dynamics etc etc.
