For what its worth, I've spent a year or two evaluating different KT88s in my ARC Ref 300II's. Although I am ever the skeptic, my impression is that the Art Valve KT100 is the best overall tube I've tried and worth the modest price differential. They have no obvious flaws and the modest advantage over the Shuguang stock KT88 is the impression of a tad more power. Unfortunately, I have to admit that 1 out of 16 tubes was defective and blew and amp which was a pain in the ass to repair, but it was doable without returning the amp to ARC. The tubes were sourced form Antiique Sound Labs in Arizona. Second to the Art Valve, the stock Shuguang KT88 tube is superb. in fact, the "getters' are more impressive (more area) than those on the Art Valve, which doesn't necessarily tell you much. Its just an observation. They have a fantastic overall sound at a reasonable price. Its important to buy them from a reliable source, and make sure they are matched. I think mine were from Tube Depot. Third, is the KT88 that Quicksilver sells. It may have the overall sweetest top end, but the Shuguang and Art Valve have modestly better bass.
