Audible,I cannot really answer your questions, but when getting the former KT66 (and now the 350b....all VA replicas)I ordered matched quads. Of course I don't know how careful those matching procedures were done, but my amps play(ed) nicely with those tubes.
When it comes to the 12AX7 I got myself a quad of the Shuguang talked about here recently. And YES, I prefer them to my previous Telefunken/RCA tubes by quite a margin.....but then I also like VA 274B as rectifiers in those amps......
