Re: Curious in what amp are you using the KT77's?

The reason behind using the el34 wasnt sonically motivated necessarily..The reason was mainly becuase its easy to drive and it has a slim profile and certain manufacturers could design their amps with a more compact layout.
When Bill Johnson redesigned the dyna st70 he used the 6L6gc for the output tubes.. Many british audiophiles that I talk to tell me the el34 is harsh and brittle on the mids and highs and they cant understand why more people dont use the 807 which is a 6L6.The el34 isnt horrible with the right driver stage but I have only heard 3 people tell me they preferred the el34 to the 6L6 sound and your the 3rd..I like the el34s in the eico hf50s but a friend of mine converted his hf50s to take 6L6gcs upon my suggestion but of course he had to change the feedback a bit and the grid resistors on the outputs to swing more voltage but he much prefers it to the el34.
All you really have to do is look the data on the el34 and 6L6gc and you can see that 6L6gc is much more linear and produces more power and draws less filament current to boot..If you have the driver circuit to be able to push a 6L6gc or an 807,there is nothing like those to tubes IMHO. Im going to convert my hf50s to 6L6gcs one of these days but the kt77 reminds a lot of the 6L6 at least in some ways.
