Yes they sounded very good out of the box and they still get better each day.I have an advantage over many people because I have so many different amps that I have acquired thru the years along with nos and nib tubes.
I use to follow the premise that the vintage tubes were always so much better than the new production tubes. One day I decided to pull out my nos nib tubes and I have done this with Gec/Genelex KT88s as well as Amperex EL34s and I listened to them in comparison to my older worn gec and amperex and the older worn ones sounded better than the new in box new old stock tubes..Thats when I realized tubes had to be broken in and many people wouldnt give the new production tubes a chance becuase they didnt sound so great out of the box all the time. When they did break in they easily rivaled many of the vintage tubes and even bettered them in some cases.
Bob what amp are using them in? If your a stock dynaco st70,they wont sound right in those until you upgrade the amp.
