The 5692 is not an exact 6SN7 equivalent, contrary to common belief. It's a less robust tube from an electrical standpoint, rated only for 275 max volts and 1.75 watts per section. Compare that the 6SN7GT rated for 300 max volts and 3 watts per section, or 6SN7GTA/GTB at 450 max volts and 5 max watts per section, and you now understand why 5692 die prematurely in some applications. Golden Tube is well known to drive all their tubes very hard.
