Jim,I did not say the amp would blow up. My point was this: why let a bad tube self-destruct and damage other components. As for consuming the getter, it sounds more like a vacuum leak.
Also, he said that the tubes were a year old, and I don't know how many hundreds (or thousands) of hours he has on them. In my book, I say replace them all.
