I am using a pair of the JJ 2A3-40 which has the same construction as their 300B's, but with a 2.5V filament. When I got my tubes I noticed that both the bases seemed to be loosely fitted to the glass envelope. When I asked the supplier about this I was told it is because JJ now use silicon rubber (RTV I guess) to glue the base of the tube to the envelope in order to reduce the effects of any vibrations.Martin
