I would first find an amp I could live with..

that sounds good to you with your speakers in your listening space, then stock up on those tubes it uses. The 6SN7 is probably one of the most linear audio tubes for voltage amplifier in existence, It's a double 6J5, ie. two triodes in one envelope. Whole books have been devoted to it; VALUE AMPLIFIERS by Morgan Jones. The 5881 is a smaller 6L6GC and is pin compatible. I would shy away from metal tubes, many of the early 6L6s were metal, and the early 6J5 were metal and they tend to be microphonic. Instead of the KT66, the 6BG6G could also probably be used in your W5M but they use top plate caps which would require rewiring and are not plug compatible and would require a protective cage. Same is true of the 807. Ray
