Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

And yet a third opinion

I have favored full range designs for decades. In my case, however, I choose large electrostats that are truly capable of covering the extremes. What I value most is coherency - where there are no audible seams and directivity is consistent from top to bottom.

Using dynamic drivers, I would prefer using a small driver to cover the majority of the range supplemented by a woofer only for the bottom octaves where wavelengths are longer and transitions are less audible.

Putting a wide dispersion tweeter atop a large full range driver that has already significantly clamped down dispersion at its upper range creates a most obvious discontinuity to these ears.
