I will disagree...although I welcomed the back to basics punk and it quickly became my music of choice...early 70s had no lack of talent...pre-punk were the Stooges and NY Dolls, laying the groundwork, so to speak, there was the essential period of Roxy Music, followed by Eno's burst of genius first 4 solo LPs...this was when Bowie was at his peak...Fairport Convention were going from strength to strength, as were Renbourn and Jansch, Kraftwerk was still figuring out their sound but Can was also at their best...Lou Reed and John Cale had interesting solo records, and there were people like John Prine and Leonard Cohen and Townes van Zandt...and many more I'm forgetting.
