I have picked up many of the re-mastered official releases. My favorites are Dead Set (with an entire extra disc of new live material incuding Shakedown Street and Wake of the Flood which has a major upgrade in terms of sound. Here Comes Sunshine and Eyes of the World simply pulse with that syncopated sound that only the Dead can make happen.I also have heard rumors of the Rhino thing. I would have loved for those re-masters to have been SACD hybrids instead of HDCD. I wasn't aware of no dowload series this month but that doesn't surprise me.
Every since Bobby put the hammer down on Archive.org new live material (and believe me I have over 2,000 live CDs of theirs so if it is new to me it is really new) has been popping up on all the torrent sites including a new vesion of 4-17-72 that is just amazing. I did notice that an audience recording of Phil's latest shows that were recorded for DVD was yanked before it could even get seeded.I was surprised at that and hope that Phil doesn't take too long to get the DVD out. There have been some great video releases in the past 6 months or so. the Radio City one from 19980 is fantastic. They may still be recovering from that 10 disc 1969 set.
I don't know what is going on either but you are right, no releases for a while. There was a rumor (complete with a web page on Dead.net) of a big box set from Winterland November 1973. The technology used sounded very interesting, some sort of feedback, servo deal to flatten out variations in tape speed. this was announced a few months ago and yanked as well.
There is so much stuff over on the torrent sites that I just don't worry about the official releases any more but I would really like to see the release of "Sunshine Daydream" from Veneta 1972. That also has been "in the works" for over a year and even had a showing or two at a movie theater.
if you want new/old Dead music check out the torrent sites. if you get confused just listen to the music play!
Bye!
