Home Rocky Road

From Classic Rock to Progessive to hip hop to today's hot new tunes!

I beg to disagree..........

Super Session is an all-time classic.

I bought it when it first came out in '68 and have worn out several copies. It's a great album.

I do prefer the Kooper - Bloomfield side to the Kooper - Stills side except for "Season of the Witch", in which Stills shows that the wah-wah pedal can be truly wicked. His picking is more "countryfied" than "rock" but quite good. Considering that Stills was a last minute replacement for Bloomfield, who quit in the middle of the sessions, his contributions are remarkable.

Bloomfield, oth, was a guitar god and #1 eccentric. His side can hardly be bettered. And, yeah, maybe the album IS dated but maybe that's because so many bands copied the Kooper sound that it's now hard to remember the original for what it was. SS was the logical conclusion to Kooper's blues period (highlighted by the brilliant "Child Is Father to the Man") and is one of the benchmark albums of the late 60s.

Old? Certainly. Dated? - Hardly.
