Sorry if you think the comparisons are non-sense. I thought it was kinda fun. Stills and Young often fall into comparison because they both started out with Buffalo Springfield, and are both (lead) guitar playing singer songwriters, and the both have (had in the case of Stills) great singing voices. It's a favorite topic for CSNY fans - which one was the most talented. You get a lot of varied opinions. No disrespect was intended to Crosby. He (and Nash) has plenty of tunes I love, and Crosby's voice is quite moving also ("all along the Leeeeeeeeee Shore..."). I enjoyed reading his autobiography.I'm a huge Neil fan. Stills is clearly less accomplished than NY, no question. Neil is one of the giants as far as songwriting, write up there with Dylan, and his grungy, crude electric playing style or simple acoustic arrangements are perfect to the excellent songs he writes.
Stills personality and ego aside, I still think he is the better guitar player with regard to clean playing and technical ability. I'm really glad that his abilities were captured on the (comparatively) scarce titles mentioned throughout this thread, because he really is a hell of an axe man. I had a great time listening to that 2nd half of Stills Live through the ribbon tweeters the other night.
