All of Stills old CD's have been remastered and are of pretty good quality. As I mentioned before, get Stephen Stills Live if you want to hear him showcase his guitar playing abilities. Nice electric version of Wooden Ships. Side 2 (2nd half of the CD) is stellar - great recording, highly recommended.Stephen Stills (Stephen Stills) is a great CD which includes some work by Hendrix on Old Times Good Times. He does a nice mixture of acoustic and electric work on the album. The Louisiana origin comes out in Back Home and Black Queen are favorites.
Stills 2 is also a good one, though the highlights are a little spottier. Nothin to do but Today, Know You Got to Run, and Word Game (great tune) are good tunes.
Manassas was originally a double LP set, most Stills fans agree that this was a highpoint for him. I'm partial to the non-Manassas stuff. You can get it in HDCD now. Manassas was a fine band, and Stills did a good job of sharing the stage with the others - nice mandolin work by Chris Hillman. A few good songs are So Begins The Task, Both of Us, It Doesn't Matter, Johnny's Garden.
A sleeper album is the electric jam session called "Super Session" which features Stills, Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper. It's a mid 60's recording, but there's a lot of good playing in there.
Another good option is to get the CSN box set, which covers a nice sampling of each member's solo work. They did a very good job of picking out Stills songs, but there's nothing from the 2nd side of Stephen Stills Live, which is his very best recorded stuff.
Stills does some very nice guitar work on the CSN Acoustic Concert DVD also.
There's always the excellent Buffalo Springfield (For What It's Worth is a classic in the time period) material when Stills and Young first played together.
