Re: Nonsense

>there will always be bands that come back but none will be on the level of the bands of the woodstock generation

This seems like a conclusion drawn based on personal preference, but it doesn't quite make sense. Have you seen the Billboard Top 100 albums of all time lately? It's based on Soundscan, which wasn't around until 15 years ago, of course, but, nevertheless, the "Woodstock Generation" is not as prominent on that list as you may think. Also, there's a larger population now than there was then, more people buying more records. Bands looking at a cash-in reunion decades from now has a larger onetime fan base to potentially draw from. None of this is about who anyone thinks is better. Of course, one advantage that Cream holds is that they were only together for a couple of years in the first place, and took nearly 40 years to actually re-form. That builds a lot of anticipation & intrigue.

There aren't a lot of acts that could be analagous to their re-formation, but I'll tell you what: the Police were hardly of the "Woodstock Generation." If they reunite in 15 years it would be the same period of time that elapsed between Cream stints. Do you doubt that people would pay the equivalent of the Cream ticket prices to see them re-form? I don't, not for a second.

The first Green Day album has sold more than Led Zeppelin's first album, two other Led Zep recs also. More copies of Beatles albums like Revolver, Rubber Soul, & Meet The Beatles. More than Journey's Escape, Aerosmith's Toys In The Attic, Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms, Crosby Stills Nash & Young's Deja Vu, Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run. And more than greatest hits albums by Fleetwood Mac, Queen, the Carpenters, Santana, Linda Ronstadt & Bob Seger...and twice as many as greatest hits albums by Chicago, Sly & the Family Stone, & Bob Dylan.

To me that points to an ability to draw pretty well, & far into the future.
