Have you checked out anything on the AliaVox label? The past two years I've become a huge fan of most all their recordings. Some of the smaller combos of musicians are similar to what you may be seeking and the playing and interaction between them in this "ancient" music, as well as the extraordinarily well recorded discs, add a freshness and vividness that's anything but ancient! Kind of pre-"chamber" chamber music...The one mentioned set has one "vocal" disc and one "instrumental".
Very atmospheric, textured, and with resonant sound. I have about 20 CDs from Savall & company and find them all very engaging. If you think it's something you'd be interested in I can go through them and give you further titles/catalog numbers.Diaspora Sefardi Diaspora Sefardi
