Last night, Rick W for some reason thought I was agreeing with the nonsense in yr post about all the other players you named who you consider to be superior talents. He said, in a post he decided to delete, that if you said that Coltrane was not a superior player in the company of other players, that you'd be laughed out of wherever you were. That Coltrane was a virtuoso. And that he's been playing for 45 years, so he knows whereof he speaks.

My belief is that you're both wrong; you dislike Coltrane's music, so you go way too far in denigrating his playing, and don't even have the decency to respond to the replies that put you in yr place. As for Rick, well, I've never thought of Coltrane as a virtuoso. I say he was a peerless stylist, a guy with some of the best ideas ever, and a supreme artist and, yes, talent. But I do think that there were better players. Which is a point to which I say, who gives a damn. Music isn't about who's the best player, and talent involves more than playing, which is the one key factor that reduces yr post to a hypocritical troll that you wouldn't have felt it necessary to put up unless you yrself have some measure of insecurity in yr own dislikes.
