Firstly, in my rant above I appeared to have labelled all current hip-hop similarly - this was not my intention; to do so would be naive and condescending. I was referring to the marketeered commercial variety and the industry that supports it, and how I feel this may have affected a genre and the general music industry in general. I was not clear and my being judgemental serves little real purpose, though when something violates one's values it can be difficult not to be zealous. Some habits are not easily overcome.Secondly, I really did not have much to contribute suggestion-wise either; better to have left it to the more knowledgable. My suggestions were more of a nu-jazz/funk/fusion ilk, though are still worth investigating. Another is Rae & Christian's Northern Sulphuric Soul and probably their label Grand Central Records.
'nuff said, Raymond.
