If it were me, and if I owned the Lynx, I would be DYING to try an external clock source that was battery powered instead of using a PC GENERATED clock.LOL. If you owned the lynx you wouldn't feel the need to "upgrade" or experiment (well, outside of crossovers, which you can do quite nicely on the 2b :) )
I am not saying that you are not 100% right, just that being a Lynx owner, and owning a DAC that I think can be used as you are suggesting (it does have a "data in" input and a "clock out" output), I have no desire to F around with it.
Sure, I'll tweak it a bit (mostly computer tweaks), but my desire to improve is gone with the Lynx.
I do feel a bit sorry for my old Dac. The poor thing has to take the onboard spdif from a non audio pc (48k to boot) and upsample that, outputting to a pair of Pc speakers.... I used to have it run off the Lynx for head phone listening, and maybe I'll hook it up that way again...
Finally, do you think that even if you could have what you are describing, that OVERALL such a system would sound as good as one that used the PC as a digital crossover? Asked another way, would doing away with passive crossovers yeild a better sounding system than esoteric dac clocking schemes?
