All capacitors have a sonic signature, at least in my experience. So if you eliminate capacitors, you eliminate a source of coloring the music. And the down side is that failures cascade, rather than stopping at the first capacitor.
All in all, I'm still in favor of direct coupling. Parts are cheap (at least for now).
