Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

Pls don't take it out context. (long)

Hi.

First off, I was referring the choice btwn Kynar & magnet wires for signal path as suggested by the orignal poster. Sonically, IMO, Kynar get the very musical sound better than any non-silver wires, that include magnet wires which I sell tons to my transformer winder customers day in day out. I never intended to single out magnet wire being bad sounding. Strictly on a relative basis. Sonically, all wires are not made equal.

The skin or enamel coating of common magnet wires for the electrical industries is a blended mixture of chemicals to serve different applictions. Like polyester-polyamideimide, is a insulative enamel used commonly in magnet wire to resist over 200C. Of course, for solderable magnet wires, another blend of lower melting point: polyurethane-polyamide, is used as the enamel skin, which will be melted away with a soldering gun up to 180C.

Interested to know which type of magnet wire used "polyethylene" insulative coating? Not to me limited knowledge.

Theoretically, a wire should go WITHOUT any insulation, therrfore no dielectric loss & slow down of wave progation. But this would not happen as in an electronic device, there are cross circuits & HV that otherwise cause short circuits & dangers.

This boil down to the choice of insulation dielectrics which give that least sigal transfer: Vacuum, free air, foam PE, Teflon, .....

Thickness or thinness of the insulative dielectric can reduce the
capactance drainage of the signal (frequency dependent), & of course, affect the voltage insulation level, but is only a small fraction of the whole signal transfer picture.

PS That's in my mew DIY amps projects or upgrades, I start to use
bare wire (min 4N pure silver or Ag plated OFHC solid copper wire)
with 99% air insulation.
