Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

You can, but why?

I know I hate to have an unused triode in a tube fired up but left hanging. I believe that the 12AX7 is probably used as a voltage source in this implementation. You will get really no benefit by increasing its current capacity. Those kids back in the 50's were a pretty sharp bunch when they came up with these circuits. With the exception of transistor current loading, notice how little things have changed in the last 60 years.

That being said, I have tried using 6SL7 in parallel and separate in a mu stage and I could not tell much of a difference. If you want to improve the circuit, ban the mini 9 pins IMHO. They were a miniturization and cost saving move, not an attempt to improve performance, again IMHO.
