I'm thinking of trying to improve the Eico version of the 5-20 Mullard circuit a bit. A 12AX7 is used as a gain stage direct coupled to a 6SN7 Schmidt type PI. I was thinking of putting both triodes of the 12AX7 in parallel and working out the proper plate load and cathode resistor to of course get back to the proper voltage for the grid of the PI.The question is whether putting triodes smears the sound at all or has some other bad sonic effects. I tried doing a search and didn't come up with anything pertaining to this.
Thanks for any help.
