Good point re number of tubes. Yes, the balanced approach cancels hum. My idea is a cancellation of hum in what is otherwise a single ended circuit. Like your approach, I use twice as many tubes as a conventional grounded cathode amp with a resistor or choke load. Also, gain on my circuit is limited to one-half of mu, with mu on most DHTs being pretty low to begin with. So, balanced offers some of the same advantages and costs.
