Not trying to talk you out of the combo but here are some of my thoughts.

Phono pres are tricky business. I have built them from schematics and sometimes they did not work at all. Others work great, some hum more than others etc... You might want to find the phono pre that works and you really enjoy before putting it another unknown.

I prefer seperate everything. I do not need the gain of a pre so my lastest phono goes into a TVC. Which brings up the question do you need the extra gain? So lets say you do. So if you build separate phono and pre you can change them around to see what sound changes are a result of the phono and/or the pre.

Just some ideas, hope what ever direction you go it works and sounds great.
