Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

a suggestion

Barry:

I suggest that you post again on the Bottlehead Forum and ask Doc about the following:

Can I change the plate load to change the sound?

Can I increase of decrease the current to change the sound?

Can I raise or lower the B+ supply voltage to change the sound?

What I am suggesting is that a different operating point for the tube might get you the fine tuning you seek. Certainly a few resistors will be cheaper than tubes and may make a bigger difference. I'm sure that Doc did lots and lots of listening to settle on the operation point he chose. But you may wish to experiment for yourself.

You may also wish to "taste test" resistors and other passive devices. Don't forget that your interconnect cable can have a big effect.

Good luck!

Dale.
