with your question about sonic differences between filament types and DHT or IDHT tubes.Yes to both questions. DHT with TT filaments is the starting of the best sounding tubes ever built. Now remember, this is simply my humble opinion, but based on a fair amount of comparisons. I will not comment extensively on IDH tubes because we learned early on that they don't 'measure up' to DHT's in any way.
So remember DHT in SET variety amp is what I talk about here.
The plate structure [geometry] and material also makes a big difference in the sound quality of a tube. I always prefer metal plates to carbon, and some get pretty esoteric with things like platinum. I have a real heartbreak story about that...including when I dropped a GM100 and the plate disintegrated into tiny shiny pieces.
I posted elswhere on this thread my favorite tubes. I may have a couple others, but you can get the picture. If you are interested, look up those tubes and you will get a better picture. If you are even more interested, let me know and we will try to enlighten you even more. The trip to SLC from Reno [my native born town] is pretty reasonable. :)
