You have it right, the screen G2 can be "messed" with. G2 is SUPER SENSITIVE.

Best sounding implementation of such a tube is a TOTALLY separate screen supply, UNregulated actively, but with a super-low or "ultra hi-fi" low DCR supply. These tube types will then portray a musical "get up and go " and good 'ole fashioned true "authority" that is hard to describe, but FUN to hear.

Do a DIY forum search on "G2" and "Paoli 60M", the only amp I know of with a totally separate G2 supply, as I did EXTENSIVE listening and experimental work on optimizing a G2 supply and posted my experimental results up here over the last three years.

These types of tubes DEMAND for their G2 an under ten ohm PT and similar L1 and L2 - and you can get even better sound with Mills MR-12s across the supply as a BRUTE FORCE " passive " shunt regulator. Never use active regulation on G2, it just kills instantly the amp's transparency IMHO !!
