Due to the football connection, haven't tried Modern TV and Electronics yet. However United Radio, the ONLY option that Sony USA could offer, replied that they cannot take on the job as "parts and manuals for the KA3ES are not longer available". Clearly not good ... if they can't get the parts, it's a most negative implication. As a confirmation of the obvious, I checked the deck again last night ... the first "feed" pinch roller is obviously distorted possibly by aging or some kind of chemical attack. It is not free to rotate evenly and this results in highly annoying wow and flutter. Paradoxically the take up roller though appears to be just fine. Nevertheless that one part has disabled an otherwise fine piece of gear. So if no tape head can suggest another option my KA3ES is sadly DOA and headed for a electronics recycling drop off.
