Re: Nakamichi 550

Hi, D:

I took my trusty Walkman Pro (WMD-6) cassette machine to Cairo, Egypt in 1995 and with a pair of Len Moskowitz' binaural mics, went about the city recording ambience and more.

The results were very good, even with problems of wind noise.

There is a time and a place for many different sorts of gear. I would never think of taking any DAT recorder out in the Libyan desert around the other side of Giza, for example. But, I took the Walkman Pro out there and had zero problems.

I wanted to add that I own and use a pair of Nakamichi CM-700 microphones. I own a lot of recording microphones and the Nakamichis are still a great pair for recording choral performances with the omni capsules.

As you may know, the CM-700's were favorably compared in the 1980's to the B&K 4000 series (which were much more expensive) and were the choice of many a location recording enthusiast. They are relatively flat across the spectrum and sound superb, even today.

Enjoy what you use!
