Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

You raise a very good point...

why in other branches of electronics and trades can certain standards be derived ( such as electrical wiring in an a home, as an example that comes to mind), promoted and accepted by a sanctioned body with the good of the industry and public at large. Yet in audio, there does not appear to be either such a body, nor the motivation to find or utilize any standards. (Now, if I'm off track here, please set me straight. )

As an example.. a grounding scheme standard may be a good place to start. A second focus may be a simple definition of "absolute phase" through the recording and play-back chain, a third might be......(input your favourite cause). Is there a body out there with any "clout" to impliment such? Is there any motivsation for the industry to come together to do so, ie. research a bit and find a standard that furthers and promotes the hobby. Ultimatly, it would be god for both the customer ( enjoyment of music reproduction ) and industry ( more satisfied customers ).

All I see now for "standards" are corporate alliances that set 'standards " ( eg Redbook CD ), ulitmately for their own corporate good, and not neccessarily for the good of " High Fidelity Audio Reproduction".

Time to step off the soap box...before I fall off.
