It damps the error signal directly at the output stage, and there is little or no need to circulate through the global feedback loop. This was measured by Otala for various types of semiconductor output stages. The evidence was presented 25 years ago in his first preprint: 'INTERMODULATION DISTORTION IN THE AMPLIFIER LOUDSPEAKER INTERFACE' presented at the 59'th AES Convention Hamburg, Mar 3, 1978
His results showed:about a 10:1 distortion range difference between superficially similar output stages The best having the lowest open loop output impedance of 0.9 ohms and the worst having a 60 ohm open loop output impedance. Both quiescent currents are 100ma.
