Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Great Observation

Hello Norm,

You made a great observation when you said: "Perhaps some research should be done on this topic but perhaps even more on the matter of objective measures that better correlate with subjective evaluations and why."

I've stated many times here many of the most vocal objectivists here don't really want to discuss audio, prefering instead to naysay everything that doesn't line up with their present audio views which consist of ideas such as these as well as others:

1) All "properly designed" amps sound the same.
(If they really believe this why don't they buy the cheapest solidstate amp with the most power?)
2) All "properly designed" wires sound the same.
(If they really believe this why don't they buy the cheapest wires available?)
3) Today's audio measurements and the specs they provide are sufficient in and of themselves.
(If they really believe this why don't they just read spec sheets, instead of doing ANY subjective listening like Pat D admitted to doing before buying his speakers?)

IMHO some people are reasonable and realize the "answers" lie somewhere between objectivists & subjectivists views. Rational people like Tom Danley will admit this. Funny how this irrational group of objectivists constantly demand PROOF of everything a subjectivist says about audio, citing how easily human perceptions are fooled as being their reason for doing so.

Yet these same vocal objectivists know how easy it is to trick the human eye. Like all of us they've seen illusionists play on this ability to trick the human eye by making cards or even elephants appear and disappear at will. Yet knowing full well how easily the human eye is tricked, these same demanders of proof in audio, never demand proof the car stopping in front of them is really there. Instead they simply trust their subjective judgement that a car is there and they hit the brakes! How do they know their eyes aren't being tricked? Must be nice to be able to pick and choice when you'll accept a subjective opinion and when you won't, huh?
