That is my reaction to RR's 18 gauge recommendations. The important metric here, inductance, does not vary much from 12 to 18 gauge. Clearly though, a reasonable length would not exhibit the extreme shelved effect starting at about 3khz.
Oh, and the impedance curve for the Quad ESL-63 is rather different from that of the modified Dayton Wright ESL.
Most speakers do have their own unique signature.
You were generalizing from a single instance.
Actually, I was looking at this graph of the Quads found here.
They exhibit the same kind of low impedance response issue at the top.
