Actually when he first posted I thought he meant IC as in an integrated circuit ...had me scared for a minute as I figured
he knew of a certain IC that went out..I figure a whole ciruit
board would be in order.
I am an automotive technician ..but a general tech so I have a basic grasp on electrical , a fairly good eye and am pretty good mechanical skills.
Ive never taken a piece of electronics to a repair shop, ive always either got lucky or ruined the piece, I decided this time id
exercise my basic look over and if I did not find anything id take it to a pro.Even though Bob is a bit of a elitist I have come away with some valuable knowledge out of this thread.. he did call the PSU issue
and sure enough that is what it was.
I will educate myself on all of the power outputs of a PSU ,
I even got a free 15 minute talk with the tech who repaired it and I got many questions answered. This was fun and rewarding buying a broken piece and getting it back to life...had I done it myself the rewards would be even more so.
I did once buy a NAD amp @ a pawn shop for $20 that lost a channel, I simply resoldered a connection at the speaker out terminals from the inside and it worked great..sold it for $185 after using it for awhile.
