Seems to me, all that's necessary to see if the "Intelligent Chip" really has any effect, is to perform the following test:

Assemble a group of volunteers, perhaps a dozen. Have each bring a CD of his/her choice to the gathering. Provide an impartial test administrator with a set of three little orange plastic chip cases: one containing a new, unsullied chip; one containing a chip that has been "used up" and one that's empty. Don't tell the person running the test which is which; just label them A, B and C.

Proceed to "treat" a series of CDs (those provided by the volunteer group) with each of the chips, alternating among them, and without letting the participants know which "chip" is being used on a given CD. Have each participant record his/her perception of the effect (or non-effect) of each "chip." Tally the results, and then reveal which chip case holds the "live" chip, the dead chip, and no chip at all.

If the IC really works, the test results should validate that. The number of people reporting a change should be significantly higher for the CDs treated with the "live" chip than with the "dead" one or the empty case. If the results are close to random, then the chip is bogus.
