I think the Manley would sound a bit more like the ADL than a Focusrite would. However, the El-Op is a stereo limiter, so you won't have to worry about matching it to the ADL. The stereo mode on previous versions, such as mine, incorporates a balance pot for correcting unwanted uneveness of the stereo image. But the latest version has a side-chain function, instead, which allows for isolated bandwidths not to be limited. They pointed out on their web site http://www.manleylabs.com/ that this could be especially useful for certain bass heavy mixes popular today. The all-tube audio path delivers a very cozy "spank," indeed. Vocal and solo bass tracking provides a big picture, and the interface is very easy to use. It must have been designed for Fred Flintstone. There are
only two big dials per channel to worry about: Reduction; and Gain. What could be simpler? No threshold, attack, or release
variability, but its clarity, even at high squash, makes those features seem unnecessary. Obviously I give it two thumbs up.
