Re: Manley vs. Focusrite

Thanks for the replies, all very helpful. For my own particular situation, the thought of attempting really critical 'mastering' type operations seems a little out there because my environment is nothing special (basement rec room in a rented house (ie: no major modification possible within lease) and pretty average monitors.) So the dual compressor I end up with would be mainly for tracking. However, in my original post I postulated about experimenting with running mixes through it just for fun & experience. I am inclined to agree with the idea that critical mastering of a serious project should come down to dedicated facilities & engineers.

In so far as this post has gotten some response, let me further the discussion by mentioning this: I have a single channel ADL that I'm fond of for tracking. I got it from a friend who sold it off pretty cheap, so it was not a 'researched purchase.' I'd like to get the Manley or Focusrite so that I can run stereo mics through it, and also for a little variety. I had looked at the Manley El-Op, but suspected it might be close enough in its style of operation to be redundant next to the ADL. Any thoughts on the legitimacy of this premise? Heard a lot of good things about the El-Op, and Manley stuff in general.

Thanks again,

-Neal-
