Re: HHB Portadat / my experience

Handle that HHB Portadat carefully. It is an excellent unit and is built well. But mine took a 6 foot drop (I didn't have it in the Porta Brace case, my bad) and it took a while for the unit to be repaired. Part of the waiting time was caused by the shop I used who insisted that they wanted to see if they could fix the circuit board problem instead of ordering a replacement one from HHB at $800. They finally threw their arms up in disgust and ordered the replacement board.

Remeber, keep it in a Porta-Brace and don't drop it!

Also, even if you don't upgrade the D to A's the use of an outboard mic preamp makes a huge difference.....even if it's the lowly workhorse of ENG, the Shure FP-33. The internal mic pres are little on the hissy side, which is something you don't want mixed in with the dialogue you're trying to record! Good luck!
