No you would not be diminishing the need for the HHB. Although it does have good DACs and pretty good ADCs an outboard will be an improvement although maybe a small one. I have also used the Tascam 45 and though it was cool but it really needed outboard AD conversion to do 24/96 well. This also eats tape quickly, 2 hour dats are gonna last 50min. If you can find an hhb used that would be a good investment.One other alternative would be an alesis masterlink. I love mine and the AD conversion is pretty good but the DA is worse than my 3700 or 3800 or fostex D5
