A dinosaur? lolOnly kidding! Seriously they are very usable machines if they are in good order. Maintainance will be by todays standards quite high, but they are capable of very good results if a slightly odd bass quality, (mostly due to the narrow track width). I would reccomend Ampex tape tends to have a longer shelf life than most other brands can't be sure which type but I seem to remember they can use 499 and 469, maybe someone else here can confirm or correct that. Good luck with your new purchase.
