Many stations still use analogue desks, and as all cd's (theoretically) should be modulated to peak at odb its easy for them to calibrate their system. Knock on that the whole thing is then squeezed to ***k by usually an Optimod (£5,000 broadcast limiter) thats why you get that sound out of radio stations. remember that almost to a fault, all the comercial CD's are mastered where quite heavey compression is added at that stage CD's are limited in dynamic range when you hear them even at home through your own hi-fi. Also metering in comercial radio stations is generally PPM variety and adjustments are usually made by the radio opps engineer.Well basically anyway.
