I have worked utter magic with the above formula.
The SSL I have and the workstation I use consistently gives a noise floor below 105dB...and with Mic's open...I get 85dB.
DAT's at 16bit 48K are not that much better than the CD one offs, but Glass mastering takes it's toll.

I don't have a project studio...but rather a full Production /mastering facility. Less than 1% of my work involves Demo's or project studio level projects.
I wonder my Friend if the extra resolution of SACD FROM 16Bit DATS involves creative control? You know it does.
You can take a redbook and put it in a condition that is superior by going back to analog.
I don't doubt your experience, but the formula has worked for over 26 years, and will continue to work if administered correctly. How do you think they are getting multichannel from old 2 ch. masters? You split the tracks and process.
