Hi all,My first post. I'm interested in computer-based audio. However, I am a very low-tech person. I've browsed some of the manufacturer's websites (Empirical, Boulder, Wavelength) but the technology is too difficult for me to follow. I would be grateful for your input on the following questions:
1. If you were starting from scratch, as I am, is there a particular technology (manufacturer) that you would follow? It does seem there are different technologies being applied (e.g. upsampling vs. no upsampling, battery power vs. not, etc.). Could you give a reason or two for your choice.
2. Given your choice of manufacturer, could you you provide a list of equipment choices, beginning with the computer (Apple, PC) to establish a full computer-based source. Given that the technology seems to be new and evolving, would it be best, budget-wise, to be in the "middleground?"
3. A basic question: Given a computers "accuracy", my sense is that this platform has the ability to be too resolving and too analytical. My concern is that this technology will make music, that is not that well recorded, unlistenable. I, as probably many others here do, listen to music that sometimes is well recorded and othertimes not. Is this is concern and, if so, is there a compromise that can be reached so all types of recordings can be enjoyed?
4. As an extension of the question above, how close can computer-based audio be to analog? Can it be as "organic".
Thanks to all,
Kevin
