A friend of mine has a set of JWWC modified (12 tube) MA-1s that really need more gain, even with an MP-3 preamp. Is there a (relatively) simple answer to this? He won't go for drilling the chassis for 6SN7's, but subbing in a different 9 pin or two with component changes inside would probably be OK.
